Somethin Otha than Clubbin: MTA Museum

Day out at the Brooklyn Transit Museum in Brooklyn, NY

It's winter time so you know what that means, lots of school vacation time for the kids. Earlier this year I had the pleasure to take my 7 year old son Christopher to the NY Transit Museum located in downtown Brooklyn's municipal area. It is great for kids and has lots of historical information about NY's transit development. Something we take for granted is how the industrialization and expansion of the NYC transit system molded the way we live in NY today.

Our favorite exhibit was old shut down train station, Boerum Place, with the display of vintage trains from the 1900's. You can board the same types of trains your grandpa and grandma traveled on decades ago. What I liked the most was the different ads from back in the day.

One ad that stuck out the most was the germ conscious ad (left)

As Always, Polite Behavior is a MUST

Makes you think about today's Straphanger's campaign and allocation of funds

The New York Transit Museum, one of the city's leading cultural institutions is the largest museum in the United States devoted to urban public transportation history, and one of the premier institutions of its kind in the world. The New York Transit Museum's galleries feature popular exhibits such as Steel, Stone, and Backbone, which recounts the tale of building New York City's 100 year-old subway system, and many highly interactive exhibitions such as On The Streets, an in-depth look at New York City's trolleys and buses. Also of interest are the museum's age-appropriate education workshops and computer resource center. For more information CLICK HERE to visit the site.
