Proud Mama: The Fruits of Labor

For someone that just had a baby, I want to congratulate all women who are able to achieve this level of awesomeness postpartum. Thank you Caroline Berg Erickson for giving me the inspiration I need to get back into shape.

I agree with Maggie!

I am tired of society pointing out things for a positive purpose but instead are indadvertedly spewing negativity and hatred. Yes, HATING. Instead of condemning those who want to show off the body that they worked hard to achieved and maintain after giving birth (which I may add is one of the most self fulling achievements a woman can do in her life) they should be mindful that spreading hate is wrong.

Now you have this unintentional message floating out there saying to lean and fit chicks who are also mothers:

"You are being a bully so keep you shirt on because you are making others feel bad."

Who are you to demonize these women?

I get it. The media portrayal of women has had a negative effect on females self esteem and the amount of times a woman thinks negatively about her body image is high (on average13X a day). Nevertheless, we have to promote positive body images but not at the expense of someone who is "doing the right thing" by promoting fitness and living by example.

Fun Fact: Women who are athletic prior to having children and maintain their bodies through healthy living are more likely to snap back faster after giving birth. Exercise, diet and genetics all are factors.

I'm mother too, so along with the weight gain, stretch marks and looser skin, I have the confidence to match it so that no other woman can walk into a room and make ME feel a way.

Someone actually alleged that Caroline wasn't even of the human species. Maybe the other mommies need to stop focusing on stretch marks (or lackthereof) and redirect their attention back to their families and the joys of motherhood. Most importantly, grow thicker skin.

At the end of the day, making another person feel bad in order to send the correct message is just wrong. #IJS

  2. Well since I never looked like that in my entire life even when I was thin, I don't expect to look like that post pregnancy either. But, I am trying to get into better shape right now so that when I do have a kid, I'm not carrying the pregnancy weight with me long after.

  3. Noone has the right to judge another no matter what the reason. Even though one person may not agree with another person is not an excuse to judge. I myself just had a baby two days ago. While I may not never have a body such as the one shown here I do admire women who can get themselves in shape and feeling well. I am fairly thin anyway.
    I enjoyed reading this post!
    Have a great weekend :)

  4. I have had 3 children and I know if I put more effort to exercise I could get fit again but I will never look like this woman. I am a 34 yr old Puerto Rican that had to have a hysterectomy 6 years ago. Now I'm going through menopause and my breasts have grown 3 sizes in the last 5 years just from hormones. To be fit, not thin is what we all should be worried about but for those who are blessed through good genes and motivation to stay thin, Good for them! Thanks for the post.

  5. Im so glad I read this! I have been on a fitness journey and recently began a challenge to myself to search for a six pack ... something I've never had. I have a blog too ... www.triathlonmami.com and posted I wanted to be a #sixpackmami OMG. The responses I got were all over the map ... I was told I was irresponsible for setting a bad example. Not sure I followed the logic there given that I explain how I want to do it in a healthy way, etc.... BUT, what I do realize, is that I was an unhealthy, smoker, drinker, non fitness person ... as I change I mirror something that someone else might want but does not do. It's not that you are not CAPABLE of getting fit, it's just that it takes commitment and choices. Not everyone has the willingness to put on the hard work, and that is okay. Their houses are probably much cleaner than mine, and their Christmas tree is probably waaaaay better than mine. But, then don't mess with me. Don't envy my progress without recognizing my sacrifices. Phew ... I guess I had that rant in me! Done. Thank you for your post :)

    1. you are welcome. I will be sure to check out your site as well. I dont understand why society promotes mixed messages. The best way to keep from being affected self esteem wise is by fortifying our self esteem. Not many people are taught to have a "iDGAF" attitude because the media knows how to make us feel guilty. Again thank you for your comment. I hope you come back and visit my site soon.
